Little Foxes (and One Big One) that Can Destroy a Marriage

Hey! I’m writing over at Proverbs 31 Ministries’ Encouragement for Today today and wanted to share this with you too! Little foxes can sneak in and destroy all relationships, with friends, family members, boyfriends, and co-workers. So let’s be on the lookout and see if there are any little foxes that are sneaking around.  Today, we’re looking at one particularly sneaky critter.  Read more…

Slow Down and Listen

Summer is the perfect time to slow down and listen. I pray that you will have some time to relax, recharge, and allow God to restore your soul in the next few weeks. Today’s blog is what God showed me one day about what I miss when I’m in a constant state of hectivity.  (That’s my new made up word for today!)

One summer I went to a famous art museum.  Read more…

Competing is for Athletes…not Friends

One thing I love about summer is hummingbirds…except when they fight.

I just don’t get it.

The feeder is full. The nectar is fresh. The four yellow perches are available and waiting.

And two hummingbirds are fighting over it.

Every morning I get up and have a cup of coffee with God on my screened-in back porch.  Read more…

When You’re Drowning in Bad Decisions

Have you ever made a bad decision that threatened to suck you into an undercurrent of destruction? I certainly have. This memory reminds me of the dangers of jumping in where I shouldn’t.

The current swift and fierce. I could feel my body being swept away like a hollow reed.

I was just a wisp of a girl—a six-year-old,  Read more…

I Want A Daddy Who Loves Me

I hugged my pink stuffed poodle to my chest.  Read more…

That Little Sneaky Path To A Bad Place

One Sunday my pastor had to do some housekeepin’ fussin’ at our congregation before he started his sermon. It was a “visitors, close your ears” moment as Jimmy interrupted the service for an important message from our neighbors.

See, right beside our church property is a city park. On Sundays, when our parking lot is full, we tend to use the city park lot for our overflow parking.  Read more…

If You Feel Like a Hot Mess…

Sometimes I feel like such a mess. I wonder what God even wants with me. Have you ever felt that way?

And then God reminds me that ALL His children are a mess in one way or another.

A common theme throughout Scripture is overcoming failure. Abraham passed his wife, Sarah, off as his sister because of fear (Genesis 12 and 20).  Read more…

Failure Is Not Final

Have you ever felt like a failure? I sure have. Jesus’ friend, Peter sure did.

Three days after Jesus breathed His last earthly breath, the disciples received the news of the empty tomb from the women who had gone to visit the grave. Mark tells us an angel told the women to go and “tell his disciples and Peter” that Jesus was alive (Mark 16:7).  Read more…

Are You Lying to Yourself?

Sometimes we need to have a little talk with ourselves. Let me explain why.

Every weekday morning my husband’s alarm clock goes off at 5:30 a.m. He gets up, showers, shaves, brushes his teeth, gets dressed, and places his jingling keys in his pocket. He clears his throat, blows his nose, and, well, does other noisy things. When he opens and closes the door leading to the garage,  Read more…
