Hang On and Trust God

Have you ever felt that this thing called life is just too hard? I know I have. Sometimes life just does not turn out like I thought it would. That’s when I have to hang onto God and simply trust Him.

I remember when my son was four-years-old and I was trying to teach him how to snow ski.  The first day was just horrible…at least it was for me. I felt like a down-covered workhorse as I lugged two sets of skis in one arm while dragging along Steven with the other. Clunky ski boots, overstuffed mittens, and a hooded snowsuit made it difficult for Steven to maneuver. Add all that to the slippery snow, and we had the perfect formula for a day of whining in a winter wonderland.

I tried to teach Steven how to snowplow to keep from going too fast. That’s when you point the tips of the skis toward the center and the backs of the skis point out…like making a slice of pizza. Well, he just wasn’t catching on. He fell and he fell and he fell.

Finally, I came up with another idea. I made an A-frame tent with my legs, Steven stood in front of me, and wrapped his arms around my thighs. Off we went. We moved as one. If I turned left, he went with me. If I turned right, he went with me. His only responsibility was to hang on and relinquish control. And even though he thought he was skiing, in reality, I was the one skiing and he was simply along for the ride.

That is a great picture of what trusting God is all about. That’s a picture of what “abiding in Jesus” is all about. We cling to him, hang on to Him, abide in Him. If He goes left, I go left. If He goes right, I go right.

David wrote in Psalm 63:8, “My soul clings to You.” In other words, David was saying, “I’m hanging on for dear life.” Just like Steven did.

Today, as you move through life, cling to Jesus. Hang on to Him. Acknowledge God’s presence with you and His Spirit in you. Trust Him!

Jesus, I’m trusting You today. I’m clinging to You. I’m hanging on Your every word. In Your Name, Amen.

If you’re trusting God in your situation today, leave a comment and say, “I’m trusting God!”

    1. Praise God, Cher! I pray that God gives you more and more Holy Spirit strength. How about that? “May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the [Holy] Spirit [Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality]. May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep In love and founded securely on love, that you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God’s devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breath and length and height and depth [of it]: [That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fulness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God himself]! Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams] To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it).” Ephesians 3:16-21 The Amplified Bible. “May the God of your hope so fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound and be overflowing (bubbling over) with hope.” Romans 15:13 The Amplified bible.

Love, hugs and prayers, Because of Jesus, Cindy

    1. Hi, Amanda, Praying for your comfort at this very moment! May you be strengthened in your inner man to keep your eyes, heart and mind fixed on Jesus. (Ephesians 3:16 and Hebrews 12:2) Here is Hebrews 12 1-2 from the Amplified Bible: “Therefore then, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses (Hebrews 11 – Hall of Faith. 🙂 ) [who have borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us, 2 Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God. [Ps 110:1]

Love, hugs and prayers, Because of Jesus, Cindy

    1. Hello, Phyllis: I am praying for you, sweet sister, and for your husband. May you be able to rest, truly rest in His loving care – underneath are the everlasting arms. Deuteronomy 33: 26-29 (The Amplified Bible) –
“There is none like God, O Jeshurun [Israel], Who rides through the heavens to your help and in His majestic glory through the skies. 27 The eternal God is your refuge and dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He drove the enemy before you and thrust them out, saying, Destroy! 28 And Israel dwells in safety, the fountain of Jacob alone in a land of grain and new wine; yes, His heavens drop dew. 29 Happy are you, O Israel, and blessing is yours! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord, the Shield of your help, the Sword that exalts you! your enemies shall come fawning and cringing, and submit feigned obedience to you, and you shall march on their high places.” I hope this speaks to your heart, dear sister. Here also Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope so fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound and be overflowing (bubbling over) with hope. ” You are greatly and deeply loved, precious one!
