My son and I sat on the floor in his room playing Rummy. We had just a few minutes before rushing off to register for his summer swim class and wanted to get in one more round of play. This summer was proving to be the best ever. Our Golden Retriever, Ginger, had just delivered seven adorable puppies, Steven was enjoying his sixth summer of life, Read more…
Are You Emotionally Crippled?
I was riding down the crowded streets of Mexico City in a cab when I saw her. She measured about four feet high, back curved, bent at the waist at a ninety-degree angle, and fingers gnarled and twisted shut. Like an upside-down chair, her face was parallel to the dirty sidewalk. Feet. Dirt. Trash. That was her view of the world. Read more…

I’ve quit when what I really needed was to press on and press through. Read more…
When You Feel Like God is Far Away
Have you ever felt like Jesus was on vacation or lost your address? Have you ever cried out, “God, where are you?” I know I have.
A crisis of belief occurs for most of us during difficult situations. We know that God is all-powerful and could rescue, heal, or save us at any time. So we tend to feel abandoned or duped when He doesn’t. Read more…
When You Tell Yourself, “I Can’t Help Myself!”
Have you ever said, “I just can’t help myself!” I’ll admit, I have. I think we all have. But is that really true?

Hi Friends. I’ll be honest. I received so many Christmas emails in December, I decided to give you a break from mine. My inbox just about made me break out in hives. If You’re Going Through a Hard Time and Don’t Understand
Yesterday I wrote a devotion for Proverbs 31 Ministries. In light of all that happened in Texas this past Sunday, I’m thinking maybe you might need this encouragement too. I had to go back and read the words I wrote to remind myself of the truth of 2 Corinthians 4:18. Yep, sometimes we need to preach to ourselves. Read more…
Living in God’s Yes and Best
“I can do everything through him (Jesus) who gives me strength,” (Philippians 4:13 NIV).
Several years ago, my husband and I decided to go zip lining on the island of Kauai. After being jostled and tossed like ragdolls in the back of a retired army jeep, we finally made it to the top of the mountain from which we were going to zip down—risking life and limb I might add. Read more…
Daddy’s Got You
It was a bit too early. Little Tripp was snug in his mommy’s womb and not quite ready to meet the world. But the doctors decided it was time for his grand debut.
My niece, Emily, developed preeclampsia in her last weeks of pregnancy. The doctors waited as long as they could, but decided it was best if Tripp were welcomed into the world sooner than later. Read more…
