Words Can Captivate Your Man

(My blogs will focus on marriage for the month of February. If you’re not married, I encourage you to read them anyway! And while you’re reading, pray for your friends that are married.  Believe me, they will appreciate it. Also, give a special blessing by passing these devotions along to them! Here we go…)

“A wife of noble character, who can find? She is worth far more than rubies,” (Proverbs 31:10NIV).

Today I want you to use your imagination. I want you to imagine your husband sitting at his desk or at a quiet place at work. Imagine him lost in thought about how blessed he is to have you as his wife. He holds your framed picture in his hand and moisture begins to pool in his eyes. He is captivated.

All the riches in the world are not to be compared with the jewel I have in this woman, he muses. What did I ever do to deserve her? God has given me such a gift. All our married life, she has done nothing but love me, bring out the best in me, and look out for my best interest.

All the guys at the office are envious of our relationship.  I see the way their eyes soften when she comes by just to tell me hello, grabs my hand when we’re at office functions, or pecks me on the cheek for no apparent reason. I notice that her loving words to me are in stark contrast to some of the cutting remarks of other wives…and so do my friends. I look around at the accomplishments of my life, but having this woman as my wife is my greatest. Oh sure, there are many women out there in the world who are accomplishing great feats, but my wife…well, she surpasses them all.

What a picture!  That’s the woman I want to be, don’t you? And amazingly my words can be the determining factor as to whether this scenario is possible or not. Did you know that there are words your husband longs to hear? Let me give you a few from my book, The Power of a Woman’s Words.

Words Your Husband Longs to Hear

  • I’ve been thinking about you all day.
  • What can I do for you today?
  • How can I pray for you today?
  • The best part of my day is when you come home.
  • You are one of God’s most precious gifts to me.
  • You are so wonderful.
  • You look so handsome today.
  • I don’t feel complete without you.
  • I will always love you.
  • I trust your decisions.

Today, pick just one of these phrases.  Try it out on your husband and watch his eyes light up! When you love your husband well, God says “Well done, my good and faithful servant!”

Let’s Pray

Dear LORD, thank you for giving me the gift of my husband. Help me to never forget that one of the greatest places of ministry is in the home, and that You are well pleased when I love my husband well. Help me to love my husband with my words and my actions today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

What do You Think?

Just as there are words that your husband longs to hear, there are words he doesn’t. I don’t think God looks at us and says “Well done,” when these words come out of our mouths.  Here are just a few:

  • I told you so.
  • You’re always in a bad mood.
  • You just don’t think.
  • It’s all your fault.
  • What’s wrong with you?
  • All you ever do is complain.
  • I can’t do anything to please you.
  • You made your bed, now lie in it.
  • You should have thought about that before.
  • You never listen to me.

Now, go back up the list in the devotion.  Which list more reflects the words that you speak to your husband?

Which list do you want to reflect the words that you speak to your husband?

  1. Hey Sharon, I used to use the words my husband didn’t want to hear (I was going thru breast cancer treatments at the time) and then we had a falling out and God put me on my knees and I started using the right words. However, he left me anyway. Our divorce was final January 31, 2013. I want to be the wife God needs me to be to my husband (yes my one flesh will be back). Please join me in prayer for my husband’s heart to be softened and that he will come back to God!!!!

  3. Hi Sharon,
Just wanted to say, once I found you on GIG, I was hooked and have also shared that with friends. That led me to your books, Women of His Dreams, which I loved reading. It was a little hard in some areas, but it is sooo true. That led me to other books, Trusting God and 5 Dreams of Every Woman. These I haven’t finished, but find very helpful. I tried doing the 14 days of Romance, and even though I didn’t do it everyday, I did have good results. My husband responds more uplifted and has that feeling of respect. I want to continue with trying those ideas out even though the days are through. I’ll just spread it out some!! I love the way you write and so I have joined to do the Bible study starting in March. I am excited, I have never done one on-line before. I have my book and am anxious to start. Thank you again for all your great advice………….Blessings, Joanie

  4. This morning my husband of over 31 years wrote me the most incredible letter and a gift on the table for me to find after her left for work, I cried as I read all the wonderful things he penned on the paper. I called him at work and said to him, ” you left the gift this morning for me to find because you knew I would cry and you didn’t want to see me cry – right?” he said yes and giggled. I am so blessed and so enjoyed your devotions. God has blessed me with a wonderful man that adores me. Together we have put God first, asked God’s direction and have to beautiful children to round off our life. God is love, we are proof.

  5. I purchased your book, A Sudden Glory, from your website recently, and since it arrived to my home, I’ve had a hard time putting it down! For a while now, I’ve been praying that God helps me to grasp his love for me so that He and I can grow closer, as opposed to me weighing myself down when I approach him with a bunch of religious rules.

Your book has been a breath of fresh air and TRULY and answer to my prayer. The presence of God meets me whenever I read your book and I am so grateful for writers like you that God uses to love me.

Sharon, you are a precious jewel to the body of Christ. Continue to use the amazing gift of writing God has blessed you with. Because it has and continues to bless so many others!

  6. Well ofcourse theres gum wrapers, but I was at my daughter wrestling practic and I was hungery so I went looking through my purse and found one piece of candy.

  7. Gods grace and Mercy always astounds me, I am so grateful I joined this group to receive daily insight on how to keep God in the Center of our Marriages, I am engaged to be married very shortly and I love my future husband dearly, As I looked over the words to speak to our husbands, these words can only be spoken if they are from the heart, and I have spoken several of these words to my husband and I am truly blessed that god has answered my prayers and brought him into my Life!!!!

  8. I’ve got him covered and will continue to do so with the specifics you have provided me with! I thank the Lord daily for these devotions.

  9. I haven’t found anyone in the same situation as me
Our marriage is shaky. I have read a few marriage books offering advice and they all say think back to when there were good times, why u fell in love, what you used to love about him etc.
Well, for me, I can’t remember any good times, I can’t remember being in love and I can’t think of anything I love or loved about him
I stick with the situation because of the kids (I couldn’t handle them on my own) and because I don’t wanna let God down by going back on my vows
I have no friends, no-one to talk this thru with
Is there anyone else like me?
    Probably not

    1. Dear outofplace: My heart goes out to you! I will commit to praying for you and your husband that you will find one, just one thing every day that you like. Ask God to reveal to you why you loved your husband in the first place. Don’t let Satan crush you like this! Read and pray Sharon’s 14 day prayer for your husband every day! Stand firm in the Lord. You have come to this site for a reason and your children won’t have a healthy view of marriage without your having a healthy marriage! For now it has to come from you! Believe me when I say Do IT! I have had a husband with S.A.D. for 33 years for 25 of those years every fall I have a different man in my home 🙂 one that is not fun to live with or be around but God has answered my prayer (no I did not know til 20 years) and in our “winter” years we are becoming closer with each other and the Lord. Pray and love your husband in as many ways as you can. You are covered out of place but soon to be in place woman! 🙂 hugs

  10. I’ve got Him covered, with your lovely prayers thank you! My husband is a non-believer, and I have asked him to seek God and assured him God will answer when you knock, I have found out he has asked God 8 times for something (a sign) over the past year. My husband said he was open to anything visual or heard, that God exists I think, and he won’t ask anymore. I believe God will answer him in His time, and your prayer encourages me that I am covering my husband in prayer while I wait for God to wow my husband like he wows me everyday. Thank you for always reminding us to seek God in prayer ALWAYS
