It was time for prayer requests from the five-year-olds in my Sunday School class. They eagerly raised their hands and expressed their greatest concerns for the day.
“Pray for my loose tooth, that it’ll come out.”
“Pray for my tooth, that it’ll come in.”
“Pray for my cat who is sick, that God will make her better.”
“Pray for my daddy. He lost his job.”
“Pray for my daddy’s friend who went to prison last week because he did bad things.”
All the requests held equal importance. The children had not learned yet (from misinformed adult) that certain requests are too trivial to take to God.
Have you ever felt that your concerns were too small to bother God with—that they seemed frivolous in comparison to what’s going on in the world? A friend has breast cancer. A parent has dementia. A neighbor’s house burned to the ground. Then there’s world hunger, climate change, and devastating natural disasters around the world. It’s easy to fall into the false trap of thinking that those are the only types of prayers worth mentioning…and the smaller ones we need to keep to ourselves.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve cringed at the thought of praying that our finicky washing machine will work today. There’s nothing the devil would like more than for us to feel guilty for asking God to help our child with a math test, selfish for asking God to stretch the paycheck, petty for bothering Him with our child’s cold, or trivial for praying for a parking spot. The enemy is the one who wants us to keep our prayers to ourselves…to consider them too small.
But God doesn’t see any prayer as petty. You are never bothering Him! He wants you to ask! Nothing in His Word quantifies the importance of certain prayers over others. What we do find is that there is no prayer too small; there is no prayer too large.
Paul wrote, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done (Philippians 4:6 nlt). Guess what everything means in the original Greek. It means everything!
So go ahead and pray like a five-year-old! Pray about everything. Pray about anything. God smiles on His children when they do.
Leave a comment with your five-year-old-self prayer request. Don’t categorize your concerns into pressing or petty, serious or frivolous, critical or trivial. Once you leave your request, pray for your sisters!!!
Father God, thank You that no prayer is too small or too big for You to hear. This is the confidence I have in approaching You: that if I ask anything according to Your will, You hear me. And if I know that You hears me—whatever I ask—I know that I have what I asked of You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Dede, praying for you and your brother. I totally understand, my youngest brother 68 has been on drugs and alcohol for years. He went into rehab for about 8 months but came out and started hanging around the same people and back on it again. I still believe God is able to set him free in Jesus name.

Yes! Over 35 years ago while taking a cake mix out of the cupboard (this is so clear in my mind) I realized I could not raise my child & keep drinking. I prayed “I can’t stop on my own, Jesus do it for me”. Haven’t touched a drop since. I was seriously tempted after my mother unexpectedly died, but no liquor in the house. Honestly, the Lord gave me a “hangover”the next morning!! The blessings kept coming: The next year I gave birth (totally unexpected pregnancy) to a beautiful daughter. We are celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary this weekend. Praise Him, Praise Him, Jesus our precious redeemer!!!

He called me about a month ago and he’s in a men’s home recovering. Never give up hope. God is working behind the scenes. I used to thank God everyday that he was protecting him and working to open his eyes to bring him out of the addiction hold. It’s amazing how quickly things can turn around. He IS a God of miracles.

Sunday I added my 11 year old Yorkie to my prayers, she got a shot 11 days ago and she had a bump on her injection site that kept getting bigger. Yesterday it had shrunken down and I praised God for her healing.

Please pray for me, I have been served divorce papers and because of the “Joint Tenancy* Law I am being faced with the possibility of being on the streets as if the house is sold my portion will not be sufficient to alternate dwelling. I am so sorry for your situation. When we are faithful God is faithful. He does provide. If it’s any consolation if you have been married for more than 10 years, are not remarried you can collect part of your ex husbands Social Security as well as yours. It does not affect his and he will never even know unless you tell him. Maybe that will help bridge the gap for monthly expenses. Some cities do have quality elderly lower income housing that may be an option. Prayers for you and may God give you the peace and comfort to press through this situation with grace, blessings and hope.

I’ve recently learned it is ok to talk yo God about everything anywhere. Just yesterday coming home from the grocery store I ask God to help my husband find a work truck. He is retiring this year from full time employment and he’s started his own LLC but picking a used truck with so many details is stressing me out. And that’s what I told God. Please Lord find him a truck and drop on his lap because he’s too stressed to pick his own. He thinks I’m crazy for bothering God but I think if God as my friend and if it’s important to me by it is to him. Thanks for the devotions.

My Loved one is Addicted to multiple things. Family broken and divorced. That the Lord will set the captive free and heal the broken. This has been a long journey its been 30 years.

Keep pressing in, try to forgive those who hurt you, know that it was their inadequacy and not that you were bad or unworthy of love. God has big plans for you. Never doubt that. Recognize your emotions and know that there is beauty in the other side of healing…. Some days will be better than others. Take it moment by moment. Yesterday morning my prayer was “Lord, help me find my wallet.” I felt like it was a silly thing to ask God for with all the other things I have on my prayer list. I had spend a large part of Sunday looking for it. There was no cash in it, but I dreaded canceling/replacing my cards. So I prayed. I looked for it some more before heading to work. I came home for lunch and instead of parking in the garage like I always do, I left my car in the driveway. I came in the house to grab some lunch and I hear my husband call my name from the garage. There was my wallet lying under where my car would have been. Praise the Lord! God answered my prayer!

I have many huge prayers like my son and his addiction to drugs, but then I also pray that I stay safe in my (God’s) car whenever I am driving and about many other trivial things, such as parking spots, and more.

I’m currently training for 2 part time jobs. My prayer is that when it comes time to schedule me to work, that they won’t conflict and that I’ll be able to manage both. I know God already has it worked out.
Five weeks ago I did something to my knee. I’m a runner who hasn’t run in 5 weeks. Satan is telling all sorts of lies — two specific ones being that it’s silly to ask people to pray for a knee and that I’ll never run again anyway. Pray that God would replace the lies with TRUTH and that God would restore my knee to full health.

Please pray for me. We lost our full term son who lived for 5 days -almost 8 years ago. Beyond devastating. For the last 5 years I have thought every day about adopting or fostering to adopt a child. There are so many children that need homes. This is not to try to replace our child who passed away. It’s because I just believe that I have more love to give, can provide a Christian home and know that there are many children that need a Christian home.
We (my husband) and I have not taken the next step on it. Something like a new job, different problems that have arised have always put it on the back burner. And it’s still is an overwhelming longing in my heart.
I didn’t want to continue to long like this if it’s not the Lord will. Please pray for a breakthrough in this or that the Lord shows me it’s not his will.
I can’t keep going back and forth on this yet still have this longing to bring a child into our home. It’s heart wrenching.

They are acknowledging that there is a TRUE GOD, with strength,,power, and love for them -as well for all HIS “children” Help us to give our LORD GOD joy by praying!

I lost my job 3 months ago (the company close down) and I’m still in search of a new opportunity. It has been a tough journey. I am getting tired and getting frustrated but I keep trying and I don’t lose faith. I hope and pray that is in God’s will I can find that new job soon. I have an interview today 🙂

I’m struggling everyday with chronic pain and other health issues. I get up suffering everyday. I’m so tired of existing like this. I’m angry and depressed. Drs haven’t been much help. My step son committed suicide in our home last month. Our family is going through a lot. Where is God in all of this?

My 15-year-old granddaughter, LUCY, who is just coming into relationship with the Lord, is supposed to leave tomorrow (Wed. 4.24.24) for the National competition of the Academic Decathlon. Yesterday she started getting a sore throat. Healing and TRUST that the Lord is in control!! She is a mature 15 y/o.
Please I pray for healing after surgery for my left hand. After five weeks the pain is still almost unbearable. And also for healing in my body. I fear that I’m experiencing some neuropathy. Please Lord take that away. I want to enjoy life!
Also please be with the surgeons who are doing open heart surgery on my dear friend Linda at 1:20 today. Please bring her your complete healing.

He is finishing up his second year of medical school and on May 5th he has to take the first part (of 3) of the board exams to become a doctor. There’s so much information and the test is 8 hours long. Connor deals with anxiety so I know he’s stressing about it. My husband may end up receiving a demotion in the weeks to come. This coming fall both children will be in college. Thank God our oldest will be graduating in December. All I can do is be still and trust in the Lord. Some days are harder than others.

Your message really spoke to me about prayer. Please pray for my 29 year old granddaughter. She has been an alcoholic for several years. Her liver is seriously damaged and other organs are involved. She has been the victem of domestic abuse at the hands of her live in boyfriend. She won’t leave him and won’t testify against him when he gets arrested for beating her. Her father, stepmother, grandfather and I have done EVERYTHING HUMANLY POSSIBLE. I know now that this battle belongs to the Lord. I have given this precious, precious child over to Him. Please pray I will trust Him enough to leave her in His care. That He will protect her, cover her with the blood of Christ and heal her.

And for my husband and I who came home from an extended trip to find our kitchen had flooded and mold was growing. My husband has cancer and I have asthma. We are having to live else where as our kitchen has to be demolished and repairs done to other rooms.
