Speaking of winners. The 3 winners of a copy of my latest book written with Gwen Smith and Mary Southerland,  Knowing God by Name, are Lisa Harness, Elizabeth Cater Childs, and Sarah Howard. Congratulations! Now on to today’s post…

I’m going to be honest with you. If there were an Olympic event for feelings of insecurity, inferiority, and inadequacy, at some point my picture would have been on the Corn Flakes cereal box as a gold medal winner.

Now, you probably think I’m going to tell you, “But then I became a Christian and all that insecurity just went away!” But that’s not completely true.

I did become a Christian when I was fourteen. That part is correct. However, I carried that insecurity into my Christian life like a ball and chain clamped around my skinny ankle.

Don’t get me wrong; I could sing “Victory in Jesus” with the best of them. I knew without a shadow of a doubt that when I left this earth and crossed over the threshold into my heavenly home, I was going to be with Jesus forever.

It was what I was supposed to do until I got there that had me stumped. I had no idea how to walk in victory in this life or what that even meant.

Did you know that you can be a bona-fide born-again Christian and still live in defeat? Yes, you can. But if you do, if I do, it’s not God’s fault. He has given us “everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3).

He has equipped us with the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8)
the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16)
the precious promises that never fail (2 Peter 1:4).

[tweetherder]But it’s up to us to walk in the truth of who He is and who we are in Him.[/tweetherder] It is up to us to walk in victory as “more than conquerors” in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:37).

It’s not enough to know the truth. It’s not even enough to believe the truth. We must apply the truth to our lives by walking in the truth by faith. We must ACT LIKE God tells the truth.

And what about those squirrely emotions that trip us up. Here’s the deal. If you know the truth, believe the truth, and act on the truth, those fickle emotions will line up with the truth. It doesn’t work the other way around. Never has. Never will.

No child of God needs to live in bondage to feelings of inferiority, insecurity, or inadequacy. No matter what battle you face, God is your victory. No matter what enemy you meet, God is your victory. No matter what struggle you encounter, God is your victory.

[tweetherder]“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57).[/tweetherder]

  1. This too is something I’ve battled with all my life. It’s been better since I gave my heart to The Lord but I still have troubles. When I do have troubles God sends in people like a skateboarder whizzing by me saying “Great day isn’t it”, causing me to forget was I was so down. Isn’t God awesome. This post reminds me of my college professor when I was taking a social work course and he was teachingus about affirmations. They are easy to learn but so hard to use in day to day life. I have and still am learning how to use affirmations. Then I look to The Lord’s word because it is full of them.

Oh by the way Sharon I just wanted to say that your prayers must have been heard because I was successful with my interview and have gained a new client! Also I now have 2 moms bidding for the 1 space I have avaiable for infants. Praise The Lord! He is truly Awesome! Thank you Sharon and others for your prayers. I’m not a full house yet but I know and trust He will bring the children to me in the right time.

  2. Thanks Sharon. There is a twist in that answered prayer today that made things complicated but all worked out in the end. It turns out that the mother of the baby changed her mind and wants to keep searching. Which although I was disappointed helped because the mother of one of my present clients has a baby that will need care in September but I had just given the space to this other baby. So I still get one of the 2 children I expected to get. You see I’m only allowed to care for 2 children under the age of 2. I already had 1 spot reserved, someone would have been disappointed either way. God has a funny way of working things out!

  3. Thank you !! This topic effects men and women alike, yet since the garden of Eden with Satan telling a women that she could be “like God” in other words “better”, women have constantly battled with feelings of insecurity.
Here Satan is planting the seed of Discontentment and taking away a women’s strength – her joy.
I have a photo of my daughter that I keep on my phone for days when i start to hear the words Satan uses to take my joy. It was taken when she was 5 ( she is 19 now). She was the flower girl in a wedding. She felt in her heart that it was all about her, all the doting, photos and word affirming what she knew in her heart to be true. In this photo she is twirling with arms outstretched, dress in full swing and a look on her face displaying her full belief in all that was told to her. She had no problem saying “I know” when told how pretty she was. She was not accused of being vain…..
When I look at that I picture I see how God sees me!! His precious daughter whom he thinks is the most beautiful princess, He longs for me to believe Him when He tells me how much He loves me, values me. how beautiful I am… I sometimes twirl too 🙂
My daughter is a musically gifted song writer and singer and I am so proud when I watch her use that gift to glorify God. Using the wonderful gifts to glorify God is our hand written thank you for all He has given us.
So I take the spiritual gifts, the beauty that was given me when I was created in His image and I twirl and twirl and God smiles and claps His hands and says “That’s my girl” and I am content!!

  4. Thank you Sharon. I am a Bible teacher and I still struggle with this. Thanks for reminding me that Jesus is All I need. I will share it with others that I know need it also.

  5. At age 75, I still fall short at times & once more fight the battle of low self-esteem. I know that God is my Heavenly Father & all things are possible; but Satan will try to shake me up. The testimonies above are so great, I thank him for directing me to these web sites; Thank you for the reminder today, that all is well, letting him lead me.
