The God Who Fills In Your Blanks

Sharon JaynesConfidence in Christ, Expectant Living, Knowing God 164 Comments

I’ll go out on a limb and say, that very single one of us, at one time or another, will struggle with feelings of inferiority, insecurity, and inadequacy. And the primary underlying falsehood that feeds the sense of worthlessness is I’m not __________ enough. You can fill that blank in with any number of qualities.

I’m not strong enough.

I’m not experienced enough.

I’m not talented enough.

I’m not brave enough.

I’m not pretty enough.

I’m not thin enough.

I’ve written an entire book on 75 of the most common “I’m not _____ enough” statements that hold women hostage to feelings of inferiority, insecurity and inadequacy, and I barely scratched the surface.

But here’s what I want you to remember: whatever you feel you are not, God is. When Moses asked God to tell him His name, God replied, “I AM.”  Whatever you need, God is. He is the God who fills your gaps; He is I AM Who fills in your blanks.

Once we let go of the lies that we are not enough, and grab hold of the truth that we are more than enough because Jesus’ presence and power in us, we will get unstuck from mealy mouse mentality and be on our way to the experiencing the courageous confidence of an overcomer.

Here’s what I want you to do. As you go about your day, I challenge you to “spot the nots” in your self-assessment. Sleuth for the “I am nots” in your thoughts and in your speech. For example, look out for words spoken or thought such as: I’m not smart enough; I’m not pretty enough; I’m not good enough. Then once your “spot the not,” I want you to “swat the not”. That’s right. Swat it right out of your vocabulary. Here’s the deal, whenever you say, “I’m not _____ enough;” God says “I AM.”

When You say                               God Says

I AM not smart enough.                       I AM

I AM not talented enough.                   I AM

I AM not patient enough.                     I AM

I AM not loving enough.                       I AM

I AM not caring enough.                      I AM

I AM not wise enough.                          I AM

I AM not strong enough.                      I AM

I AM not outgoing enough.                 I AM

I AM not secure enough.                     I AM

I AM not bold enough.                         I AM

I AM not ___________enough.     I AM

Now, go back and read that list again. But this time, read it out loud. Go ahead. Nobody’s watching. If they are, they’ll be blessed too.

“Nots” swarm like flies on the unaware and unsuspecting. Let me encourage you to “spot the nots” in your life. Hunt them down. Sleuth them out. Spot them. And once you spot the nots, swat the nots right out of your mind. Get rid of them.

I AM is the God who is everything you need. I AM is the God who fills in your blanks.

Do you believe that? If so, leave a comment that says, I believe that says “God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks.

I’m going to randomly pick one entry and give away a free copy of my book, I’m Not Good Enough…and Other Lies Women Tell Themselves.I'm Not Good Enough

  5. I just recently began a new job for the 2nd part of my life. I am 52 and decided that if I was going to work until I could no longer work, I wanted it to be fun. So after working 16 years as an Intervention Aide in public schools, I switched to a Child Development Center. I didn’t realize how hard it would be to leave my comfort zone and daily looks of support in the hallways. It is hard to begin again and learn new things. At the same time, my dad had open heart surgery and my father-in-law is under hospice care in a nursing facility. What we didn’t see coming or hardly expect was that my mother-in-law would have a fall at home and end up having surgery and certainly didn’t realize that this very injury would combine to actually end her journey here on earth and begin her hope of hopes, being with Jesus. SO MUCH all at one time. I am struggling with overwhelming thoughts as I settle in and think of all that needs done at my in-laws home and balancing a full time vs. part time job I used to have with summers off and now I don’t. I know God provided this job and has blessed me with it, but why now did all this other have to happen. It can be overwhelming. BUT, God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks. When I say: I want to quit and I can’t possibly find time for everything, HE says I AM, when I say it’s too hard to go through all my m-in-laws” things HE says “I AM” and WILL BE all you need to face.

Isn’t HE amazing?? Trusting HIM. Just read this morning Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be wit you wherever you go.” I sure needed to read that this morning and then also…….this particular devotional. I will continue to meditate on it! Thanks for all your words! 😀

  6. I believe that God is everything I need. He is the God that fills in my blanks.

Thank you for the powerful message.

    1. I am more then a conquer, God gives me what I need to get through all things. Thank yoou God (Jahova Nissa) my banner that helps me get through it all.

  7. GOD IS EVERYTHING I NEED!! HE FILLS IN ALL MY BLANKS!! Thank you Sharon for another inspiring blog. I always look forward to them because they always touch my heart and remind me of things I need to hold onto. God bless.

  8. I am not ‘detailed’ enough. I had a car accident and could tell you who was next to me on both sides who was parked on the row behind me but I did not see the girl that came around the building from the pharmacy and hit me or me hitting her. Now I am in trouble. I tried soooo hard not to get hit. I know I got white knuckles trying to get out of there. She said she did not see me. Now she wants me to pay for her damages. Neither one of us saw each other. I say it is ‘no fault’. Why am I not more detailed. Why didn’t my little angel get between us and protect me. If I didn’t try, I could see me getting hit. I worked so hard to get out of there. I am always ‘short’ and ‘I’ get in trouble and here I have tried to avoid the trouble. Why? What am I doing wrong. I even use money orders to avoid bank problems. I can’t handle problems anymore. It can be a small problem, but it grows into a huge mountain. Really. What is happening to me. I don’t even want to go out of the house because things like that happen to me.

    1. Jerrie, my heart goes out to you. I know how it feels to be overwhelmed at every turn. My thoughts and prayers are with you that you will be encouraged today. Swat those nots and trust God is enough and he is with you.

  9. I cannot praise God enough for being everything I need. He fills in every blank in my life with His amazing presence!

  10. I feel I am not enough many time throughout my day but I need to stop and know I AM is enough and with him in my heart I am enough too. Thanks for the reminder today.

  11. I really needed this today. I am dealing with some serious insecurities and needed to remind myself, “God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks.” Praise His holy name.

  12. I continue to cling to knowing these things- and because of Gods love and reminders -my joy is sustained even though I am with a husband who has only told me once or twice in 32 years….that I had done something right.

  13. I almost didn’t take the time to read this message this morning…It was exactly what I needed today. Hits right at the core of my everyday struggles.

  14. Thanks for sharing that with the mighty, couragous women of today! God, please speak to each and every woman’s heart that reads this and let us each fill in the blank with your truth, “I AM” and know that we are more than conquerers! May God Bless!

  15. I believe that says “God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks. Thank you Sharon for this great reminder!!

  16. Lord help me to keep my eyes on you no matter what I face. When I am aware that I am not enough, instead of believing the lies of the enemy, help me to shift my focus that in You I’m more than enough!!

  17. Absolutely spot on. God is everything I need and he wants me to think positive thoughts about myself. Thanks for the reminder.

  18. WOW and WOW! I needed that! GOD is the GREAT I AM and I’m collecting the “nots” as I go and having a great time swatting them with a smile telling them I AM supples ALL my needs and fills in the nots with HIS grace, love and I AM. Amen!

  19. The post was so much meant for me and sad but true of the lies I was believing. God is all I need to live out my life in this world. When I am not, HE is and I shall boast more about my weaknesses because I need Him to be the I AM in my life.

  20. God is everything I need. He has filled in my blanks many times, but especially during the last 18 months when my husband was diagnosed with cancer and then with his home-going 6 months ago.

  21. God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks. Sometimes I think there’s too much wrong with me for Him to be the I AM for me. For you or someone else yes but for me it’s hard to wrap my head around that.

  22. God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks.
Thanks for sharing this ! I plan to pass it on to a few friends!!

  23. How true of so many women to believe they are not enough in so many ways. Thank you for your reminder of how God changes that.

  24. I needed to read this post because I struggle with feeling a sense of inadequate. I need God in my life and He is all sufficient for me despite all the lies I tend to believe. With His help, I choose to break free from these lies and let Him be the I AM for everything. My life is full of blanks but God takes care of me along with everyone else He creates.

  25. God is I AM. He fills in the blanks that I try to get other people to fill in. He helps me rest and calls me to come to him and let him fill the blanks before I try to get someone elsse to.
Only then, can I point to how he fills others’ blanks too.

  26. Thank you so much for sharing, I really needed this today!! I believe that He is the answer to my every need!

  27. 2 Corinthians 12:9 -“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

I am not perfect and most of the times I get disappointed on myself because of my insecurities and incapabilities, but I am glad and I do rejoice that God’s grace is too sufficient for any disappointments in life.

  28. I do believe that God IS Everything I need and He DOES fill in my blanks! Yes, Amen and Amen He IS I AM, Yaweh! Praise Him and to Him be ALL the Glory!

  29. I believe that God is a God who cannot lie and He says i am the head and not the tail. I am everything that He says i am because He has given me everything i need for life and godly living. Hallelujah!!!

  30. Such a beautiful inspiring post! I think so many women today are struggling with not feeling good enough especially when we compare ourselves to others on Pinterest and Instagram, we feel like we’ll never have their “perfect” lives. The thing is we don’t have to be replicas of them we just have to be ourselves and we’re good enough! “God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks.

  31. I Believe that GOD is EVERYTHING I need. He fills in my blanks because I constantly struggle with insecurity and I just keep telling myself that GOD IS EVERYTHING!!!

  32. God is everything I need. He is the God who fills in my blanks.

I forget this way too often. This is such a great reminder. I was just at a Sharon Jaynes conference in Redding, CA. It was such a wonderful time. It was exactly what I needed and so is this.

Thank you so much for all you do.

    Your Sister in Christ

  33. God is all I need & has always been & always will be. He fills every blank & I am so grateful for that since I a one of those persons who can’t have a blank not filled in.

  34. Thank you so much for your heart, word, and desire to uplift women. I really needed to hear this today.

I believe that God is the I AM of my I Am not’s. He is all that I need to fill in those blanks. May I draw my strength from Him.

  35. I read them aloud. I cried ’til I ran out of tears. I’m working my way back to an open heart with the Lord after being so burdened and lost. He has never turned away, never left my side or let me down. “God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks.”

  36. Sharon, Over the past few years, I have learned that “God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks.. Before this realization, I was one who believed I was of little value to anyone because there were so many things I felt inadequate about. I have learned and accepted differently and am finally at peace with myself and everything around me. God is Good All the Time and provides all that I need when I need it the most.
Thank you for allowing us to share our thoughts.

  37. I believe that “God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks!

Thank you for sharing this word today. I really needed it with everything going on. You are an encouragement to many. Keep sharing and spreading God’s love to uplift women everywhere!

  38. I am not smart enough to teach God’s word. But says, “I AM!”

Thank you, Sharon. You inspire me to be a woman of the Word.

  39. I believe God is my everything, my Lord, My King, the one whom fill all my blanks.
Thank you so much, Sharon , I just want to let you know how bless I am everytime I read your blog. every single time God use you to talk to me..
Thank you, you are true blessing to my life.

  40. I fully and totally believe that God is and does fill in every one of my blanks and then some. He is the reason I get up in the morning, it’s His strength that gets me through the day. He fills in every blank in my life, and I now realize that I may not have all I want, (carnally speaking) but I have all I need if God is in my life. I trust Him to fill any void, any blank any space in my life that needs filling.” I had a God-shaped hole inside of me” as the song says, now I am no longer hollow or shallow, but at peace and loving life. Praise the God that made me, sustains me, and loves me totally.!

  41. I believe that God is everything I need! And I’m going to “spot the nots” and slay them. Amen and replace it with I Am, who is God. Amen.

  42. God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks. He has seen me through my darkest of days and has never let me down.

  43. I’ve often said that phrase and I still do sometimes but not nearly as often. Some things are more habit than actually believing them. I was not taught early in life that, “life and death is in the power of the tongue.” Putting that into practice in your mid thirties takes time and retraining. Renewing my mind is a daily habit for this now 54 year old. I press toward the Mark of the high calling(daily).

  44. Dear Sharon:
I really enjoy reading all your encouraging emails of GOD’s Word I get from you; but never more as this message I read this morning!!! GOD is so GOOD!!! HE knows what we need & when we need it!!! I had to give this testmony; I know it’s always been true; but if ever I doubt it I don’t anymore; “GOD TIMING; is ALWAYS ON TIME!!!
I was battling with myself; about not beable to follow GOD enough; not having enough strenghten; ….. Paul came to mind, as I was dealing with all of this;…when I try to do good I weaking; just stop; or just don’t do it; etc…;anyway I was repenting for it all & praying for GOD’s Help; asking HIM to just take over all of me & for HIM to take control of all of me; which I do & have ask HIM like I do all the time & I know HE’s working on & with me;but this time was so clear I seen it right in front of my own eyes!!! I went to the ladies room on 15min break & check my email on my Iphone & there was your email & GOD was there telling me ” I am & I can;” & I was just so lifted up in HIS Strenght & my hope in HIM; hearing HIM HE wasn’t & is not giving up on me!!! Thank YOU, my, LORD GOD, my, FATHER ABBA & my, LORD JESUS!!! Thank you, Sharon!!! GOD Bless you & all you touch & all yours!!! Love Marilyn Lock

  45. My parents made me like I was never good enough. I married a guy whom I found out later treats me the same way. I’m trying to believe what God says about me.

    1. you are wonderfully made in God’s image. God does not make mistakes. He has a plan and purpose for all his children!

  46. I believe that God is everything I need. He is the God who fills in the blanks. Amen He has filled some of my blanks, and I know He will fill others when the time is right.

  47. I was born with a clef palette, children can be cruel. I was molested as a child. I never married, nor had children. I was constantly in wrong relationships. I thought I just wasn’t worthy of anymore than that.
But God showed me that I am worth so much more. Last year at age 55 i finally freed myself of my last wrong relationship. Not sure where God is going to lead me , but I know he is with me every step of the way. I put my complete trust in God

  48. Ms Jaynes,

I read this book last year. It is awesome. I am a new christian and never new how many lies I was listening too in my head. Your book helped me to realize that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I new that verse before but your book helped me to BELIEVE it. As a single mom of three kids , two who are adults, I need to tell myself daily that God wants to work through me for His glory and that if I humble myself and let the Lord lift me up then HE gets all the glory!! And He certainly deserves it for what he did on the cross!

I have read about three of your books back to back. I have passed them on to friends. Your books are truly a gift from God!! You helped me to learn who God is and who the enemy is and how he operates!

Thank you Ms Jayne so much!!!

    In Christ,

    Letitia

  49. I am a teacher. When I am not wise enough, quick enough, discerning enough, clever enough, patient enough, God says I AM.

  50. I believe. I trust God completely but sometimes those, “I am not enough” will sneak in. I want to be stronger and with God’s help I will be.

  51. I believe every day that God is telling me I AM enough. Through my bible and other books he tells me. Through my church services, Sunday school, and K-Love he tells me. Through restoration and prayers and actions and family and friends he tells me. After what this last month has held as a challenge and a new path to walk I would be a fool to believe any other way. God is enough and I AM enough for him.

  52. I believe God fills all the empty spaces in my heart. His word says I am a daughter of a king. So if the great I AM believes in me so do I.

  53. I believe that says “God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks.

Thanking Him and Praising because He does fill those blanks!

  54. This post meant a lot to me because it is so true that we doubt our abilities all the time. I keep finding myself now saying “God is _____” all day long.

  55. I believe God is everything I need and He will fill in my blanks!!! Thanks for all you do to encourage hurting/doubting/scared women!

  56. For years I told myself that I could not feel God’s love. And then one day it became clear to me that what I feel doesn’t matter. What matters is what God says. So now I just tell myself to forget what I think and rely on God’s word. this doesn’t fit the subject that is in discussion right now but I wanted to tell someone.

  57. I do believe that God is “My I Am”! He is my comforter, my shelter, my reedemer! God is my everything!

  58. I believe that says “God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks. Thank you for the reminder to let go and let God be the Great I AM!

  59. God is everything I need. He is the God Who fills in my blanks. Amen! Haleluyah! Glory to Him always! in everything! Amen!!!

  60. I unfortunately listen to the lies Satan tells me too often that I am not good enough. Lord forgive me and help me to believe and act on the belief that You are the I AM and can fill in all those I blanks in my life!
