I wish you could sit with me for one day and read the emails that come to my inbox. Some rip my heart out. Such was the case with the one I’m going to share with you today. This dear sister has graciously granted me permission to share it. This blog is a bit long, but I really want you to to get it. Read more…
A Higher Place
911
Mom punched in the numbers and waited for the ambulance to arrive. She was having intense abdominal pains and the vomiting wouldn’t stop.
I got the call, and for the next six weeks sat by her bed and watched her slip away. We talked about everything from the distribution of her material possessions to the best shampoo for shiny hair. Read more…
Let Go and Take Hold
Have you ever watched a performer on a flying trapeze under the massive circus tent? A short horizontal bar suspended by ropes or metal straps dangles high above the crowd. The aerialist grabs the trapeze bar, jumps off of a high platform, and swings through the air.
She swings out once, swings back in above the platform, and swings out again. Read more…
Who Do You Think You Are?
I’m getting ready to get on a plane and head to Kentucky to speak at a women’s event. And a memory slid it’s way into my mind. Remember who you are and whose you are. You are not doing this on your own.
See, it was my first large speaking engagement about eighteen years ago. Read more…
Time to Put Your Foot Down
This week I started reading Joshua and I got stuck on chapter 1 verse 3. I camped out on the east side of the Jordan for three days, just pondering that one verse.
“I will give you every place where you set your foot.”
I was about to head into the chapter 5 where Joshua leads the Israelites into The Promised Land…finally. Read more…
How to Make God’s Deepest Truths Truly Yours
Today I was pondering a quote by Oswald Chambers that I have dog-eared from October 10 in his book My Utmost for His Highest. It is one that I go back to time and time again. I wonder if it will resonate with you.
All of God’s revealed truths are sealed until they are opened to us through obedience. Read more…
What You Miss When You Don’t Forgive
One last wish.
The longing of a dying mother’s heart.
A wish that only one person could have satisfied. But he didn’t.
If you’ve read any of my books, you know that my childhood was a cauldron of violent arguments, alcohol induced rage, and physically terrifying fights. As a child I saw things that a child should never see and heard things that a child should never hear. Read more…
When You Long for Something More
I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but I’ve been absent for a few weeks. I’ve been hunkered down working on a new writing project. Would you like a sneak peek? Here you go.
I was alone, or least I felt that way. Women huddled in happy clusters chatting about first one thing and then the other. Read more…
What To Do When Your Rooster Crows
I sat on my back porch, wrapped in my fuzzy worn robe—the one that’s twenty years old that I just can’t seem to get rid of.
The birch trees waved “good morning,” and the newly planted gerbera daisies stretched their faces to the sun…just a bit higher than the day before.
Then I heard him. The rooster. Read more…
The Most Fun I’ve Ever Had in a Restroom
A few weeks ago, I was in the airport, headed to New Jersey. It was a typical rush, rush, rush morning.
Grab the bags, trudge through traffic, hunt for a parking space, follow the herd, wade through security, dash to the gate.
Folks aren’t usually very friendly in airports.
Eyes look straight ahead. Purposed feet slap the floor. Read more…
